Young Executives

While they might not be the most exciting part of a project, insurance and bonding are both important (and sometimes confusing) elements of the construction process.  The Young Executives thought there was no better way to help you better understand the world of insurance and bonding than to team up with local industry experts, Barry Shelton of Marsh, and John Spooner of AON, for a discussion over a beer at High Key Brewing Co.

Barry and John will cover everything from a general overview, to owner vs. contractor responsibilities to special situations to watch for based on your project.  With a combined 50+ years’ experience in the industry, Barry and John will have plenty of real-life examples and horror stories to learn from, with an opportunity for you to ask them questions & to take part in networking following the conversation.

Next up in the Leadership Series is"Mentorship & Coaching" which are both ideologies and tools that Young Executives hear a lot about these days.  Amazing mentors and coaches can influence your career path and support your learning and growth. What is the difference between the two? When should you use a coach vs. a mentor? How can you be a more focused and supportive mentor and/or coach to others?

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the difference between mentoring and coaching and where and when each has value in the workplace.
  • Ability to use the “CREATE” powerful questions model to experience the creation and sharing in powerful questions;
  • Identify where to locate external resources for coaching and mentoring

NOTE:  The Leadership Series is hosted by the Young Executives but is open to all members!  Attendance in all sessions of the Leadership Series is encouraged but in no way mandatory!  Each session is designed to both stand on its own, and easily integrate into the others.

Everyone gets the same amount of time a day and has different approaches for managing it. In this workshop you will discover your preferred method for managing your time and the pros and cons associated with this style. Participants will:

  • Examine their work week and document what’s working well and identify problem areas
  • Explore strategies for mapping your time and tasks for a day, week, and extended period of time (such as a project) and how they are linked to your goals, priorities, and preferred method for organizing your time
  • Learn about different approaches, strategies, and technologies for managing your time
  • Leave with an action plan to tackle time management challenges and improve workflow

Please bring a printed copy of your calendar for the week so we can work through a real example.

Negotiations take place all day long.  Whether you are deciding who takes what role on a project, how much time to complete a task or in what order - these are all tiny acts of negotiating expectations, accountability, and completeness.  With clear negotiations, you will find there is a higher degree of communication, agreement, and completion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn where workplace negotiations fall short and how to improve these interactions with clarity and creativity.
  • Communicate your offers and requests with greater confidence and how to get clear on the other person's interests, needs, and wants.
