Interpreting Construction Documents (Blueprint Reading)

Construction Documents are the basic means of communication in the construction industry.  The key to properly interpreting construction documents lays in understanding the basic framework of a full set of documents.

A complete set of construction documents is comprised of two equally important and linked components:

The full-day seminar will include review and discussion on both components; their importance, priority, details, information and influence on the construction industry.

The morning content of the seminar will introduce the process of construction document preparation, interpretation and resolution.  This session will provide a clear understanding of the requirements and information found in construction documents for use in bidding and field purposes.  It will also explain where to typically find required information and how to interpret the documents towards the installation and performance of the item.

The afternoon portion of the seminar will provide an understanding of construction protocol from the point of Bid Award to completion of construction.  This part will also review the possible impact that changes may have on the overall building performance.

Kurt Dietrich facilitates the full day seminar. Kurt grew up as the son of a journeyman carpenter, starting work on sites under his father’s direction.  Kurt is a Registered Architect, operating as the managing partner in Kreate Architecture and Design Ltd.  His education background includes Diploma in Architectural Technology (NAIT, Edmonton), Bachelor of Fine Arts undergraduate studies (Carleton University, University of Alberta and University of Regina) and most recently the Diploma in Architecture (RAIC Syllabus Program).  He has been involved in hands-on aspects of the building industry since 1980, participating in both construction work and consulting aspects.  He continues to work as an Architect in and around the Province of Saskatchewan on projects ranging from $40,000 up to $14 million in size.
